1:21pm on 28 June 2008. A visit to the Cemetery at Cooktown. With the history of the town and the area, this is a most interesting place to visit. But I was particularly struck by the contrast between the graves which are maintained, and those which have become neglected and fallen into disrepair; between the graves of those who have more recently passed on, and those who have passed on many years ago; between the graves of the unknowns, and the graves of those with names. But who now remembers these, these who have passed to the next world? A sharp reminder that we too shall, in this world, be every one of us one day forgotten. A poignant lesson in humility and pride. |
